A million years before man they grazed the vast empty plains, living by voices only they could hear. They first came to know man as the hunted knows the hunter. Before he used horses for his labors, he killed them for meat. The alliance with man would forever be fragile. For the fear he struck deep into their hearts was too deep to be dislodged. Since that neolithic moment when a horse was first haltered, there were those among men who understood this. They could see into the creature’s soul and sooth the wounds they found there. The secrets uttered softly into troubled ears. These men were known as the Whisperers.”

There is No One Size Fits all In Horsemanship

Just as we as people are all different every horse is different. They each have their own unique story to tell. Their own past and their own history. To be successful in horsemanship you must first understand this one quintessential truth. It is not the method that you use but the trust you gain, the communication you learn and the willingness to give one hundred percent of yourself that makes for a great horseman and builds the foundation for a lasting bond and partnership. If you give your all so will they. There is a visible moment that occurs when an undeniable connection between a horse and human being forms.  It is unmistakable. I call this moment the "meeting of the hearts.'

You MUST Look Inward Before Looking Outward

Many, if not most, horses that come to me are those who have troubled pasts. Those who have a story to tell that has not yet been heard. They are the horses who have often experienced a lifetime of trauma often by the hands of man or, as in the case with wild captured horses, only enough contact by mankind to become traumatized by it. Regardless of their background they all share one common trait; in one way or another they have been broken. Most horses with, what many people refer to as, "behavioral issues" show great insight into the part of their story that has left a lasting scar. The most crucial part of my work is the discovery of that story and helping to mend what was broken. This takes time, patience, proper communication and most importantly trust. Heart work always comes before ground work.

Every horse offers an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the true nature of horsemanship. Individuals, they each have their own story to tell. Their own scars to heal. This sweet soul started her first day of school very afraid and lacking confidence not only in people but herself. A three time rescue she bore the emotional scars of loneliness and neglect. She had been taught nothing and had been handled very little. With a little faith and a lot of luck she found a loving forever home with a wonderful family. After two years of love and affection, it was time for her to start the next chapter of her story. That is how she came to me. After 30 days this amazing girl left school with confidence and knowledge needed to succeed. Graduated top of her class receiving her "diploma" in partnership, ground work, bareback and under saddle riding.
